My wife, Maria, is dwarfed by Mishka, a 10-month old Malamute "puppy" when this picture was taken, and already weighing well more than 100 pounds. He is still growing, and is expected to weigh more than 150 pounds when full grown! He lives with my father and step-mother in Juneau, Alaska, an ideal setting for a strapping big Alaskan dog like this.

Mishka is a very affectionate and playful puppy. He loves to gives hugs...but watch out, his playful hugs can easily knock you down! Here he is shown playing with Maria at the Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau, Alaska.

Maria tries to teach Mishka some table manners. Mishka is so big, he doesn't even need a chair to have his head above the table when sitting down. He never stole off our dishes....well, not yet....

Grrrr! Don't I look fierce playing with my stuffed toy! The mighty malemute shows that he isn't above playing a few games with his play toys.

Ahhhhh...this is the life. Cozy on the rug while getting a belly rub! Sure beats pulling a dog sled in the cold, cold snow!

No, Mishka! Down! Off the bed! You know you're not allowed up here!

Alas, sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie. And when you are as big a dog as Mishka, you don't leave much room for anyone else!

Time to bid a muddy farewell! Maria and Mishka stop for a breather on a hike up the Dan Moller trail in Juneau, Alaska. It was raining that day, and Mishka gleefully pounced in every mud puddle he could find, and then gave us both big hugs with his great big muddy paws.
